Amy:
I’m so excited to share this cutting edge kitchen with you today. Shawn, you guys had a huge part in this.
Shawn:
Yes, we did, and I’m really excited to show it to you.
Amy:
You guys have been in business for a long time, so you really know the product and the design in and out.
Shawn:
We do, 28 years this year, and we’re really excited and pleased that so many people have supported us through this challenging year.
Amy:
And you’re locally owned, so it’s even more important for the support.
Shawn:
Yes, same owners, 28 years.
Amy:
But you’ve really diversified your portfolio over the last year or two, because now you’re doing kitchens.
Shawn:
Really just two years that we’ve been doing kitchens, and look at this.
Amy:
It’s stunning. This is so custom.
Shawn:
It’s an example of what we really can put together for a client.
Amy:
So the first thing I notice is the custom colour. Did the client just come to you and decide that?
Shawn:
100%. We worked with Marcus Ludwig on this project and he definitely had a strong idea of what he wanted this kitchen to look like. Colours, function, and design.
Amy:
And it really ties in so nicely. Even with the vaulted ceiling, it just has such impact. This was a great example of a client that already had a vision, but then your designers came in and made it a reality.
Shawn:
That’s right. Marcus Ludwig brought this into us on a piece of paper, hand-drawn.
Amy:
Yeah.
Shawn:
And our tech team took it, drew it in CAD, of course, so that we could show every inch of space used, and revisit it a little bit till we got to this beautiful space.
Amy:
And it really is so unique because they’re actually going with a portable induction instead of a cooktop and things that you can’t just do with product out of a box.
Shawn:
That’s correct and this is a truly custom kitchen and designed with, as you see behind me, a cooking station as opposed to a cooktop, and the clients are able to use a variety of induction plates and Instapots and other appliances that are very popular right now and appeal to really changing diets and families.
Amy:
And really planning out every square inch of the kitchen with them so that the work triangle works well and every drawer, it’s a home for utensils or tools. It’s all thought of ahead of time.
Shawn:
Truly thought out ahead of time.
Amy:
The appliances really were such a huge part of this design. How did you accommodate everything?
Shawn:
Well, what we always ask is for appliances to be chosen before we finalize design. I don’t sell appliances, but I tell you they are a huge consideration in every one of our projects. This beautiful fridge/freezer that we have in here and the Sharp microwave drawer complete the function of this kitchen.
Amy:
So this kitchen truly is the entire space that we see. We’ve got some living area, dining area, working area, all in one beautiful room. And it’s not just kitchens that you do. You guys are so well known for your walk-in closets. That’s such an important space to have highly organized, beautiful and functional.
Shawn:
Yeah, it really is the cornerstone of our business.
Amy:
From the moment I stepped into this room, it just has such a comfortable great feel to it.
Shawn:
It really does. From cooking, casual dining, to living, this beautiful kitchen has it all.

Amy:
We’re in one of my favourite rooms in the home, the closet. It’s often so overlooked yet one of the most important. Every square inch has to be incredibly functional. And this one is absolutely stunning.
Ted:
Well, thank you, Amy. We’re very proud of this closet.
Amy:
You should be, this is so gorgeous.
Ted:
Well we did a lot of work with the owner and she was most gracious in making good decisions and we came up with the best way to handle it. This was started off as a very dark room and now, as you can see, it’s all bright and everything.
Amy:
I loved that everything’s hidden away behind the doors and it just feels light and airy.
Ted:
Our client wanted to have everything hidden behind doors and hidden nice and tidy. So everything is that way. Starting from the laundry hamper, which you can sort as you put it away and the bags lift out easy to take around to different drawers you can have for everything. And full extension, nice, quiet, soft close.
Amy:
Everything has its place.
Ted:
Everything. In fact that’s one of our mottos is a place for everything and everything in its place. Grandma used to say it. And inside the other thing is having really well lit closet. So every cabinet has lights inside of it so you can easily see the difference between a navy blue and a black or anything you that want. And again, everything closes nicely.
Amy:
And then I love for the door inserts as well in some of them, you have the frosted glass with the light behind, and then you have the full length mirror. So you can really try on everything and see how you look.
Ted:
Exactly. And the room is actually, when you walk into the room, the lights all come on automatically. So you’re not fumbling around looking for switches. And another thing is making everything accessible. We do that by making everything visible. So you get back in a dead corner you can have things that are easy to see. If they’re easy to see they’re accessible. If they’re accessible, they’re functional.
Amy:
And that’s one of my biggest pet peeves is the corners. They often become dead zones, unused space. That is so functional.
Ted:
Thank you. And around, over here, on the other side of you, we have another cabinet. It contains one of her favourite items and that’s a pull-out ironing board. So it comes out, tilts down, swings around and the iron is right handy there on a little shelf in behind. So everything can be taken care of.
Amy:
That’s perfect. Less steps. You’re not having to do everything in the laundry room then bring it in here. You can just do touch-ups as you need to.
Ted:
Touch up when you need them, yep. And everything’s convenient.
Amy:
And this drawer is great too, because that’s where jewelry, fancy watches, that sort of thing. You really get the keypad on there which will lock it up.
Ted:
Yep, both of them are like that. This one is open so you can see how they all have the acrylic jewelry liners inside them. And then you can keep them all safe and secure.
Amy:
Organized so you don’t end up with the big knot of necklaces.
Ted:
That’s right. So this is a premier closet of ours. So again, we have little valet rod here, so you choose what you’re going to be wearing that evening or that day.
Amy:
The night before, yes.
Ted:
And the thing is about this as it’s more like a kitchen in a way, in that it’s totally closed in and it’s much more elegant than maybe a standard walk in or reach-in closet.
Amy:
That’s right. I love that the cabinet tree goes right to the floor and to the ceiling with the crown molding and the base kick.
Ted:
It’s a nice look, isn’t it?
Amy:
It is. Yes. Thank you so much, Ted.
Ted:
Thank you, Amy.
